CO<sub>2</sub> Methanation on Ni Catalysts Supported over Activated Carbons Derived from Cork Waste

Activated carbons (ACs) derived from cork wastes were for the first time used as supports CO2 methanation catalysts. Cork (natural-N and processed-P) physically activated under N2/H2O(v) atmosphere at 800 °C to obtain corresponding AC (ACN ACP, respectively). Ni Ni-CeO2 catalysts prepared by loading ACs with 15 wt % (Ni/AC) or Ce (NiCe/AC) incipient wetness impregnation co-impregnation, respectively, using 2-propanol solvent. For comparison purposes, a commercial carbon (ACC) was impregnated same metals loadings. The characterized N2 sorption, XRD, TGA, SEM, TEM, finally tested atmospheric pressure conditions (86 100 mL·h–1·gcat–1, H2/CO2 = 4:1). Microporous high surface areas (757–903 m2·g–1) obtained natural processed wastes. While nickel incorporated Ni0 over materials, CeO2 phases detected on incorporation of these metal species induced decrease textural properties, while affinity toward promoted CeO2. In terms average particle sizes, smallest ones Ni/ACC (8 nm) Ni/AC samples, addition led remarkable this parameter cork-derived materials (from 20 7 nm 33 16 ACN Higher CH4 yields exhibited CeO2-containing catalysts, relative yield increases 210–670% samples basis being observed.
